Omega Speedmaster Professional Apollo 15 - Four decades AgoEach year, Omega introduces a whole new special of - inside my humble opinion - the nicest chronograph ever, the Speedmaster Professional. It's one of the few watch brands, or maybe the only brand, that gets away in my book with all these limited editions. In 2010 watches , it had been Forty years ago that Omega accompanied the crew of Apollo 15 to the Moon.The Apollo 15 Mission, that moving on the 26th of July 1971 and safely returned on the 7th of August in 1971. About the 30th of July, the crew landed their Lunar Module on top on the Moon rolex ring , to be there for 4 days. These pages on Wiki has a great and detailed description on the Apollo 15 mission.As you have seen, Omega used the mission patch as a possible inspiration to the model of the Speedmaster Professional Apollo 15 dial. Not only the outer portion of the dial contains the colors from the patch, even the dials received the mission's colors. In past times, Omega provides the mission patches with the sub dial at 9 o'clock (much more about the patch models might be read here), different dial colors (white dial) and different engravings in case to commemorate a NASA mission. Personally, I enjoy all of the Apollo limited editions, particularly the Apollo 13 limited edition while using Snoopy patch about the 9 o'clock subdial along with the Snoopy image involved back.This Apollo 15 might be my second favorite mission Speedmaster. The red, white and blue colors are employed in a manner that it won't dominate the watch that much by any means. The good thing is on the case back though, breitling navitimer watches an exceptional engraving from the Lunar Roving Vehicle.Underneath the case back, you can find the great ol' Lemania based chronograph, known as Omega caliber 1861. Although Omega continues to be introducing their new in-house movements, like caliber 8500 and 9300 (chronograph), the Speedmaster Professional will continue support wound watch.Omega is delivering this watch - introduced during BaselWorld 2011 - to everyone their authorized dealers.
